Irekia unveils its new home page
Irekia, the direct communication portal with the public that the Basque Government runs online, unveiled its new design last week. The emphasis is now on citizen participation, true to the goal of the current government to delve further into transparency, good government and rigor in management.
The new version of Irekia, the fourth since it was launched in January 2010, retains the basic features for which this tool was created, that is, to provide a channel for the public to learn about what the Government is doing at any time, underpinned by the principles of transparency, participation and collaboration. It is a re-design of its main home page, where the citizen participation section takes centre stage.
The new Irekia thus provides the public really easy access to the information on the activity of the government and, at the same time, allows them to submit any suggestions and options they deem appropriate.
The header of the new home page has a news section which successively highlights the latest top news about the Government, along with live broadcasts of the events on its agenda for that day. Then and in the central part of the screen, the spotlight is on the section dedicated to citizen participation, with 3 tabs where the Basque general public can channel their opinions, suggestions and contributions on any subject.
The first of the tabs, which covers Citizen Requests, gathers all those requests and suggestions that the public want to contribute on areas that concern them or which are topical. At the same time, they can use the tab to vote for or against the other citizen proposals (this tab consolidates and centralises the content that was previously divided into citizen proposals and questions, but the operations are the same). The Government Proposals tab includes those Bills, strategic plans, programmes and initiatives where the Basque Government wants feedback from society in order to reach conclusions on each of them.
Finally, the Government Responses tab is where the public can find the response to the issues that they have raised with the Government on a specific theme.
The new Irekia still has the now standard sections on the government schedule and news items, along with those containing the video and photo libraries, and the section that monitors the topical themes in the different social networks in our sphere.
