50,000 Basque men and women have benefited from the extension of Osakidetza’s bowel cancer screening programme to those aged 70-74 in 2024 A total of 350,000 Basque citizens were invited to preventive screening, which in the past year has detected 7 out of 10 bowel tumours in the early stages Osakidetza's bowel cancer screening programme reached a participation rate of 73% in 2024, one of the highest in the Spanish state and the European Union as a whole, setting a domestic and international benchmark in the area of preventive screening.
