Imanol Pradales Gil is Lehendakari, President of the Basque Government, for this 13th Legislature. He was sworn in under the Tree of Gernika on 22 June 2024.
He holds a doctorate in Political Sciences and Sociology from the University of Deusto.
He has also completed the Advanced Management Program in Executive Education at IE Business School, a Master's in Knowledge Management from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), as well as a MOOC expert course in Competitiveness and a Masterclass on the Labour Market from London School of Economics.
He is a lecturer and research fellow on leave from the University of Deusto. From 1999 to 2007, he taught a number of subjects in the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences. Between 2004 and 2006, he founded and led DeustuLan, the University of Deusto's Careers Service. He has also taught on various postgraduate programmes.
In 2007, he launched 'Bizkaia Talent,’ one of the first initiatives to address what is today one of the biggest challenges in that province: attracting and retaining talent.
He combined this role with his work contributing to two of the most important strategic processes that the EAJ-PNV has undertaken in the past 15 years: ‘Think Gaur’ and ‘Entzunez Eraiki’.
In 2011, he joined the Bizkaia Provincial Council as Councillor for Local Enterprise Development, under the leadership of Jose Luis Bilbao. He went on to serve as Councillor for Economic Development (2015-2019) and Councillor for Infrastructure and Territorial Development (2019-2023), working alongside Unai Rementeria. When Elixabete Etxanobe took office, he remained in the latter role until 2024.
He speaks Basque, English and Spanish.
Imanol Pradales Gil was born in Mamariga (Santurtzi) on 21 April 1975 and is the eldest of four siblings. He is married and has one daughter.
