Public sector politicians Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs

Javier Hurtado Domínguez

Minister of Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs from 2020-09-08

I am taking on the challenge of a Department that includes areas of significance in the Basque Country economy and with a very direct influence on people's lives, such as tourism, hospitality, commerce and consumer affairs. I am aware of the difficulties faced by workers, entrepreneurs, businesspeople, and self-employed people and I will be their ally throughout the whole process.

Our mission is to lead the processes of recovery, professional development, innovation and sustainability in these sectors, offering support to and boosting the businesses that support them. We will be partnering up with associations and actors in the sector to design effective programmes.

We will dedicate ourselves to consolidating the Basque Country as a safe, leading destination for tourism. Wealth-generating tourism that also becomes an empowering axis of the society it exists alongside, from our commitment to sustainability.

Our aim is also to promote trade through public policies that promote the professional development, digitisation and modernisation of the sector, thanks to how our businesses are the backbone of social cohesion and the street life of our cities and towns.

It is important to bear in mind that people are the target of all these policies, and how they are also directly affected by consumer-related actions. We are therefore planning, promoting and implementing policies for the defence and protection of consumers and users, facilitating the involvement and commitment of the Basque public to a mature and responsible consumer society.
