The Basque Government has recognised 60 organisations for their dedication to the SDGs in the inaugural Euskadi Agenda 2030 Awards.

Today at midday, President Imanol Pradales chaired the gala ceremony for the inaugural Euskadi Agenda 2030 Awards, where the Basque Government recognised the efforts of 60 organisations for their commitment to integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their activities. This award, promoted by the Basque Government's Department of Social Innovation and Agenda 2030, aims to promote and highlight the importance of integrating the SDGs into business management, recognising it as a key factor for sustainable competitiveness and the genuine commitment of organisations.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) serve as a global call to action to eliminate poverty, protect the planet and enhance living conditions worldwide. The Euskadi Agenda 2030 Awards were established as a tool for organisations of all sectors and sizes to reflect on, assess, and enhance their alignment with the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda.

Furthermore, it is based on the principle that commitment to the 2030 Agenda should go beyond isolated or unrelated actions, requiring instead its structured integration across all areas of an organisation's management.

President Imanol Pradales has acknowledged the companies and organisations committed to a "human" model of competitiveness, one that places people at the centre, and emphasised that "it is not enough to set ambitious goals. We must define action plans, clear indicators, and tools to measure the impact of our actions” In this regard, Pradales emphasised that sustainability is not only a global challenge but also an individual and collective responsibility, "where every company, every organisation, and every person has a role to play. This responsibility is reflected in actions that contribute to building a better future, such as co-responsible work-life balance, flexible working hours, inclusive employment, women's leadership in the business world, training, mental health programmes and decarbonisation, among others.”

The awards serve a dual purpose: first, to identify organisations that are leading in the implementation of the SDGs, so their best practices can inspire and guide other businesses; and second, to publicly recognise the efforts made and the progress achieved in SDG application.

To receive these recognitions, organisations must demonstrate a significant level of progress and tangible results. The Euskalit Foundation has developed an online evaluation platform and provides a support service to organisations that require assistance.

Three Award Categories

Organisations that complete their self-assessment on the online platform can receive the basic level Konpromisoa recognition.  The Basque Government has acknowledged the commitment of 34 organisations from various sectors.

Similarly, organisations that meet the established minimum requirements can undergo external verification, enabling them to attain the Bidean intermediate recognition. A total of 16 organisations have been granted this level of recognition.

Finally, there are organisations that meet the Aurreratua advanced level recognition threshold in the external audit have achieved this higher recognition. In this category, the Basque Government has granted awards to 10 organisations.
