The President of the Basque Country, Imanol Pradales, met with Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission.

  • The meeting aimed to position the Basque Country as a key player in the European industrial renaissance, focusing on exploring European funds to enhance competitiveness. This meeting is part of his second official trip to Brussels.

Following the presentation of the 36th Sabino Arana Awards, President Imanol Pradales held a meeting with Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy, and former President of the Renew Europe Group.

The purpose of this meeting was to position the Basque Country and its industry as key players in the European industrial renaissance, while also continuing to explore new tools in this area, including European funds aimed at enhancing competitiveness.

Accompanying President Pradales were Ander Caballero, Secretary General for External Action and Global Euskadi, and Sacha Halphen, Political Advisor to Stéphane Séjourné.

The meeting with Stéphane Séjourné is part of President Imanol Pradales' second official trip to Brussels this week. Among other engagements, the President will meet with Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, to discuss matters related to competition and the energy transition. Additionally, Pradales will meet with Alain Rousset, President of Nouvelle Aquitaine, and Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the European Commission's Commissioner for Transport, to discuss the connection of the Basque Y with Paris.

As part of the initiative for the Atlantic Macroregion, within the framework of the alliance of European regions for cohesion, and alongside the presidents of Emilia Romagna and Nouvelle Aquitaine, the President of the Basque Country will hold meetings with Raffaele Fitto, Vice-President of the European Commission for Cohesion Policy, and Piotr Serafin, European Commissioner for the Budget, to advocate for a regionalised cohesion policy benefiting all EU regions.

The trip to Brussels will also include a meeting with Martin Hojsik, Vice-President of the European Parliament, to discuss progress on the proposal concerning the use of Basque in European Parliament plenary sessions.
