Minister Amaia Barredo: “In the current situation in the wine-producing regions, in Rioja Alavesa-Basque Country we are redoubling our efforts to promote them”

Mrs. Amaia Barredo, Minister of Food, Rural Development, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Basque Government, believes that “in the difficult situation experienced by a good part of the wine-producing regions, in Rioja Alavesa, the Basque Government, together with other institutions and private entities, is redoubling its efforts to promote them”.

“This is a strategic sector, and we are creating new spaces for cooperation to overcome this moment and remain among the top positions of the various designations of origin” stressed Barredo in Laguardia

This morning, the Department of Food, Rural Development, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Basque Government and EDA-Drinks and Wine Campus held the wine meeting “Rioja Alavesa: tradition, quality, progress and future” in Laguardia. At the Laguardia meeting, nearly one hundred attendees from various wineries analysed the current situation of the Araba wine sector with the interventions of the oenologist and sommelier José Ignacio Junguitu, Iosu Garaialde, Director of Sector Promotion at HAZI, Joxe María Aizega, General Manager of the Basque Culinary Center, Raúl Pérez Iratxeta, Deputy Minister of Food and Rural Development of the Basque Government, and Mrs. Amaia Barredo, Minister of Food, Rural Development, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Basque Government.

The attendees came from various wineries in the region. They all participated in the work sessions and group discussions. The need for a framework of coordination and open relations with the sector throughout the new legislature was made evident at the meeting.

“We are coordinating and supporting an open, active and positive ecosystem, within a framework of public-private relations, thanks to a joint work scenario where new agents contribute knowledge and capabilities, especially in the field of innovation and the integration of synergies and capabilities” said Minister Amaia Barredo.
