Tolosa will host the 55th International Choral Contest, which will feature a notable Asian contingent this year.
The 55th International Choral Contest of Tolosa was held this morning at the Tolosa Puppet International Centre (TOPIC). The objective of this competition is to assemble the most accomplished choirs from around the globe, facilitating the exchange of styles, interpretation, choral literature, vocal education, and each country’s unique traditions. Additionally, it aims to showcase the rich musical and cultural heritage of the Basque Country. Over the years, it has become one of the most significant choral competitions globally.
From 31 October to 3 November, the Tolosa competition will become a global benchmark, with participation from groups across the globe. The event will feature a diverse range of vocal ensembles from various European singing schools, including choirs from Belgium, Denmark, France, Latvia, Lithuania and Sweden. The organisers have identified the “significant Asian representation as a key highlight, with groups from South Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, China and, for the first time, Thailand set to compete. To conclude this impressive showcase, the competition will feature two South African choirs.”
Similarly, this year's programme will feature performances by chamber and children's choirs. An international jury will select our representative for the European Grand Prix of Choral Singing, which will be held again next year in Tolosa on 26 October.
