Bilbao will host the GEM Global Entrepreneurship conference in 2025
Thanks to the support of the Bilbao City Council, Bizkaia Provincial Council, and the Basque Government, the EEB-OVE Basque Entrepreneurship Observatory's candidacy was successful.
Bilbao has been selected as the global host for the GEM Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2025, the world's premier entrepreneurship event. The announcement was made during the launch of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Global Report 2023/2024, which took place in Morocco. Bilbao City Council, Bizkaia Provincial Council and the Basque Government are supporting this meeting through SPRI.
The EEB-OVE Basque Entrepreneurship Observatory (GEM Basque Country) presented the city's candidacy, emphasising the key points that ultimately led to its selection: The Basque Country has an excellent entrepreneurial ecosystem. It tops the national rankings with a score above the European Union average and like that of the United States.
The EEB-OVE research team, supported by the three Basque universities, has 20 years of experience in measuring the entrepreneurial phenomenon in the Basque Country: University of the Basque Country, University of Deusto, and Mondragon University. Bilbao is among the top 10 European cities for foreign investment. Bilbao's attraction to foreign investment makes it one of the top investment cities in Europe.
Bilbao has been selected as the primary venue for the world's leading entrepreneurship event, making it the global epicentre of free enterprise. The conference will be enriched by the presence of renowned academics and experts from over 50 countries, significantly enhancing entrepreneurship knowledge. This exchange of ideas will promote a deeper understanding and create valuable opportunities for international collaboration for Bilbao, Bizkaia, and the Basque Country.
