The Atlantic Arc Commission is currently holding its hub meetings in Brussels.

2024 February 1

The Delegate of the Basque Country to the European Union, Marta Marin, and the Director for the European Union, Mikel Antón, have recently participated in Brussels in the hub meetings of the Atlantic Arc Commission. These meetings are held by the different working groups of this Commission, which is currently chaired by the Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu. The working groups are those on Fisheries and Aquaculture; Innovation; Ocean Pollution; Atlantic Tourism and Culture; Cooperation with non-EU countries; Atlantic Strategy; Marine Energies; Transport; and Atlantic Macro region (the latter three coordinated by the Basque Country).

Specifically, the participation of the representatives of the European Union and External Action Secretariat focused mainly on the Atlantic Macro-region. They have conveyed the importance of the moment in which we find ourselves, with a view to defending the configuration of this macro-region, following its inclusion on the agenda of the General Affairs Council of the European Union on 12 December last, under the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU. The Basque Country, as chair of the Atlantic Arc Commission, is making contacts at the highest political level to ensure that this project finally sees the light of day, while at the same time asking the regions participating in the meeting to make an effort to continue putting this issue on the agenda of the Atlantic States.
