The Basque Country is experiencing its best moment in tourism thanks to seasonally adjusted, sustainable growth and leadership in international tourismThe Regional Minister of Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Javier Hurtado, today held a press conference to present the Basque Country's presence at the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) 2024, which will be held from 24 to 28 January in Madrid. Accompanied by Daniel Solana, director of the Basque Tourism Agency-Basquetour, the Minister stressed the special importance of this edition of FITUR, in the best year for tourism in terms of its evolution and in which the new tourism brand, the Grand Tour Euskadi Basque Country, will be presented.
The Minister has advanced that "in the absence of December figures, in 2023 we have grown by 8.6% compared to 2022, the year in which we led the tourism recovery, and that we will probably reach 4.5 million visits. The most important thing is that we are growing in a seasonally adjusted manner, as we only increased by 0.4% in July and August, but we are growing by around 13% outside the summer months. We are also growing in a balanced way throughout the territory, which means that the movement of flows is intensifying. And something very important is that we are seeing the fruits of our promotional efforts to recover international tourism, as it is increasing by 16% compared to 3% for domestic tourism".
The Sustainable Tourism Strategy 2030 is consolidated at FITUR with the launch of the new tourism brand, the Grand Tour Euskadi Basque Country. This 8-stage tour promotes deseasonalisation, the movement of flows and longer stays, and is an example of the diversity of the Basque Country's tourism offer. This initiative and the stand will once again showcase our varied tourism offer, our internationally renowned gastronomy and the richness of our diversity and culture.
The Grand Tour will be presented on a 40-metre long screen measuring 195 square metres, replicating the immersive experience of visiting the Basque Country. The campaign includes audiovisual materials that will be the guiding thread of the stand, allowing visitors to take a virtual tour of the different stages of the Grand Tour. The Euskadi stand at Fitur is the central support for companies and professionals, more than 130 have already confirmed their attendance, with an enlarged space and a new meeting management tool at their service.
