Marian Elorza defends in Europe the definitive boost to the configuration of the Atlantic Macroregion

2023 November 16

The Secretary General for the EU and External Action is currently taking part in the General Assembly of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions and in the Plenary Session of the Atlantic Arc Commission, being held in Brittany.

The Secretary General for EU and External Action, Marian Elorza, is participating in the General Assembly of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR), being held today and tomorrow in Saint-Malo, Brittany (France). Together with Elorza, the Director for the European Union, Mikel Antón, and the Basque Country’s delegate to the EU, Marta Marín, will attend the meeting.

The Basque Government representative is chairing the annual plenary meeting of one of the six CPMR Geographical Commissions, in place of the President, Iñigo Urkullu, who holds the presidency of the Atlantic Arc Commission. Political representatives and socio-economic agents from the Atlantic territories will attend the meeting, before whom Marian Elorza will defend the Atlantic Macroregion, whose mandate is being promoted by the Spanish presidency of the European Union.

After the opening session of the CPMR General Assembly, the CPMR Political Bureau (to which the Basque Country belongs) will be held, where the election of the new President of the organisation and the text of the Final Declaration or Manifesto of 2023, which includes the main political messages that the CPMR wants to convey to the new European institutions, will be discussed.

Tomorrow, the ceremony to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the CPMR will take place, followed by sessions dedicated to maritime and fisheries issues, cohesion and solidarity (migration and Ukraine), among others.
