Ihobe, awarded Sustainability Action 23 for its promotion of the circular economy and urban regeneration
- The awards for the best Sustainability Actions 23, awarded by CompromisoRSE, aim to highlight the initiatives carried out in the field of sustainability, environment and social inclusion by companies, foundations, academic institutions and administrations throughout 2023
Ihobe, the Public Environmental Management Society attached to the Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment of the Basque Government, has received the recognition of Sustainability Action 23, awarded by the organization CompromisoRSE. The category is public administration for “the promotion of the circular economy through the mobilisation of more than 800 companies and entities in the adoption of measures aimed at extending the useful life of goods and achieving greater well-being with less waste, as well as for work in urban regeneration”.
The award was collected by Jaione Lanborena, corporate director of Ihobe, within the framework of Sustainability Day 23 - a day organised by CompromisoRSE and dedicated to sharing the most inspiring actions on sustainability - which was held in the auditoriums of the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid. This award recognises and highlights the environmental and social impact of different actions and initiatives carried out by all types of organizations (companies, startups, foundations, NGOs, public administrations, and academic and educational institutions).
Ihobe believes that the transition towards a more circular economy can offer great opportunities for the Basque Country, its companies and its citizens. It focuses its efforts on ensuring that circularity can contribute to companies obtaining economic benefits and increasing their competitiveness through energy savings and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. All this while at the same time facilitating the creation of jobs at the local level and new opportunities for social integration. As for work on urban regeneration, projects such as life Urban Klima 2050, the largest climate action project in the Basque Country; and the initiatives that emerged in Udalsarea 2030, the Basque Network of Sustainable Municipalities, are a good example of this.
The Sustainability Actions 23 awards recognize and value the initiatives and projects, carried out throughout 2023, in terms of sustainability, environment and social inclusion. With the aim of rewarding the country's main stakeholders, the awards are divided into six categories: Public Administration, Training and Educational Centres, NGOs and Foundations, Organisations, Startups and Companies.
