The Basque Country joins the Global Network of Cities for Sustainability and offers to host future summits

2023 October 17

On the last day of his trip to Japan, the President met with Yuriko Koike, Governor of Metropolitan Tokyo, before whom he announced the joining of the Basque Country to the Global Network of Cities for Sustainability (G-NETS), founded and led by this metropolis.

The network was created in 2022 and aims to be a forum for cities around the world to discuss and share knowledge and experiences in order to find solutions to common challenges, with the ultimate goal of making sustainable societies a reality.

The Basque Government has been invited to the G-NETS Leaders' Summit to be held in May 2024 in Tokyo Bay, which last February hosted its first high-level meeting with the participation of leaders of the world's major metropolises and cities.

Precisely in their meeting this morning, Iñigo Urkullu offered Governor Koike the possibility of the Basque Country hosting one of the summits to be held in the near future.
