President participates in the first day of the Basque Week in Tokyo

2023 October 14

President Urkullu, accompanied by the entire delegation of the Basque Government that has travelled to Japan, inaugurated the Basque Week installations and welcomed the people who came early in the morning. Throughout the morning, the President attended the first gastronomic workshop of the day. 12 people learned how to make “gildas” (tapas) and tasted txakoli (sparkling wine). The Txalaparta workshop also attracted a large number of participants and the exhibition of herri kirolak (Basque rural sports) aroused the interest of all passers-by.

BASQUE WEEK

Four street-side tents, located in Toshima's busy Global Ring square, and a large stage complete the Basque Week installations designed to interact with the public and reach the largest number of people.

From October 14 to 19 — from 11 am to 8 pm on weekends and from 12 pm to 8.30 pm on weekdays — there is an ambitious and varied programme, aimed at audiences of all ages, to invite them to get to know and savour the essence of Euskadi Basque Country

The programme includes:

  • 27 performances and exhibitions from the Global Ring Theatre stage;
  • 56 workshops will be held at the gastronomy, herri kirolak and culture stands to taste Basque gastronomy, practice dance steps or dare to play the txalaparta (percussion instrument) for the first time;
  • a fourth stand to present the Basque Country’s tourism offer.
