
Minister Nerea Melgosa encourages Basque citizens to "participate in the Food Banks at a time of special need for many families"

The Minister of Equality, Justice and Social Policies of the Basque Government, Mrs Nerea Melgosa, has encouraged Basque citizens to "value the work of the food bank, to participate and collaborate with them and to recognize their work for years in a time of special need for many families”. "If the situation is difficult for everyone due to the increase in prices, it is even more so for those who have less," she pointed out in the Ugaldetxo industrial area, Oiartzun.
Mrs. Melgosa, together with other institutional managers, has visited the stores of the Gipuzkoa Food Bank, in Oiartzun, guided by the president Mrs Belén Méndez de Vigo and by the Bank Staff. There she has held a meeting with the volunteer teams, representatives of donor companies and with beneficiary entities.
Sailburu* Melgosa (Minister*, basque language) was a volunteer at the Araba Food Bank and this afternoon referred to the necessary institutional coordination thanks to a registered grant from the Basque Government. "They constitute the social antenna of different demands from our environment and are especially necessary."
In the 2022 collection campaign, the Gipuzkoa Food Bank collected 240 tons of food and received donations in bank accounts worth 85,000 euros and vouchers worth 305,000 euros. Counting each kilo of food for one euro, 630,000 euros received.
The Minister Mrs. Melgosa has congratulated the volunteers of the Food Bank and has thanked the Basque society for the commitment and illusion that they show every day in this altruistic and supportive activity towards the most disadvantaged groups in Gipuzkoa”.
The Gipuzkoa Food Bank has been working since September 22, 1997 with the founding objective of fighting against waste. It is part of the Euskadi Federation of Food Banks and FESBAL, as well as NGOs accredited by Lealtad Foundation
