53 Basque companies from the wine sector are taking part in the 28th edition of the ProWein international trade fair

The German city of Düsseldorf will once again host the International Wine and Spirits Fair ProWein, the most important international event for the wine sector, which will be held from 19 to 21 March. This 28th edition will be the first to be free of restrictions after the pandemic, so the organisers have high expectations of attendance.
A total of 36 Basque wineries from the Basque Country, supported by the Basque Government, will be exhibiting their products under the brand Euskadi Basque Country - Basque Wine. There are 21 wineries from Rioja Alavesa, 10 wineries of Txakoli from Getaria, 2 wineries of Txakoli from Álava, another two wineries of Txakoli from Bizkaia, a cider maker of Natural Cider from the Basque Country and a distilling company.
All of them are exhibiting their products at the Euskadi Basque Country stand in a 290 m2 space in Hall 11 of the Messe Düsseldorf exhibition centre.
The Basque Government's Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Policy, Bittor Oroz, and the Director of Food Quality and Industry, Raúl Perez Iratxeta, visited the fair this morning to accompany the Basque wineries and companies taking part in ProWein 2023.
The Basque Government's support for the development of the Basque Food and Drink Industry is one of the strategic objectives of the 2023 Promotion Plan to boost the competitiveness of the Basque Country's Food Value Chain.
International exports are one of the most important lines of business for Basque Country wines and beverages, which is why it is important for these wineries to participate, as the German fair is considered the best showcase for creating new business contacts from all over the world. For more than 25 years, ProWein has become the number one event in the world's wine industry.
The fair is aimed exclusively at a professional audience and the visitors are expert buyers from the various distribution channels (wholesalers, hotel industry, catering, specialist retailers, importers, large chains, etc.).
The most important innovations in the wine sector are on show in Düsseldorf these days. Through special exhibitions, seminars and master classes, visitors will be able to catch up on the main trends in the sector or share what they are looking for directly with winegrowers.
This year, in addition to the wineries and companies exhibiting under the brand Euskadi Basque Country - Basque Wine, another 17 Basque wineries will be taking part with their own stand at the German trade fair.
