Minister Mrs Nerea Melgosa attends the screening of the short film 'Malkoak', by Sonia Estévez

Nerea Melgosa, Minister of Equality, Justice and Social Policies attended this afternoon the presentation of the animated short film "Malkoak" at the Dendaraba Space of the Vital Fundazioa Kulturunea in Vitoria-Gasteiz. The director and producer, Mrs Sonia Estévez, has discussed various details of her latest work with the audience.

Sonia Estévez is committed to "giving light to social issues that need to be treated from other perspectives". In this case, the work "is a defense of crying", indicated the director in the meeting with the public.

The negative vision associated with crying called into question through this work of an educational nature that combines art, entertainment and vindication. The independent production company Tik Tak Film Studio also supported her previous project, “Txotxongiloa”, a feminist short film that has won several international awards.

Malkoak opens a reflection on emotions with the help of a peculiar healing tear and a boy named “Peru”. The initiative has the support of the Vital Foundation, the Araba-Álava Territorial Council, the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council and the CIFP Mendizabala.

The music for Malkoak corresponds to the basque composer Mr Koldo Uriarte and the costume design is by Mrs Maddalen Agirre. Mrs Arantza Cordero, Mr Javier Fernández Landaluce and Mrs Sonia Estévez herself participate in the script. Mrs Yohanna Baena is the director of photography of this short made in Basque Country.
