The plan was presented by Inmaculada Freije, Director of Planning and Strategy within the Basque Government.
Freije took part in a round table wherein the "Basque case" was compared with the experiences of the Finnish region of Lahti and the strategies of a Portuguese research centre.
The Meeting on Smart Specialisation takes the form an international conference, organised by the S3 platform (Smart Specialisation Strategies) in collaboration with the Andalusian Agency for Innovation and Development (IDEA), which includes the participation of experts and institutional heads from the European Commission, the OECD, European regions and the academic sphere.
The specific subjects debated in the Andalusian capital were as follows: the concept of the strategy of smart regional specialisation and its conditionality within the new 2014-2020 framework for cohesion; innovation and structural funds; the steps taken by regions in terms of the development of smart strategies; and the initiatives backed by the European Commission to support regional strategies.
