“Climate Change”, axis of the II Trans-Pyrenean Youth Forum that takes place from today in Hondarribia

The town of Hondarribia (Gipuzkoa) hosts, from today, Thursday to Sunday, October 2, the celebration of the Second Trans-Pyrenean Youth Forum in which eighty young people from Nouvelle Aquitaine, Occitaine, Catalonia, Andorra, Aragón, Navarra and the Basque Country will discuss Climate Change and adaptation to it in the regions and countries of the Pyrenees.

According to Jean-Louis Valls, Director of the Pyrenees Work Community, “at the meeting, eighty young people will talk about the situation posed by climate change and the initiatives and actions that can be developed to prevent, adapt and combat it. Youth is the social sector most aware of the environments and conditions in which they have to live and for this reason they are the ones who most clearly see the need to act”.

The Forum's motto is “The impact of climate change in the Pyrenees: What can we do?”. Throughout the conference, the young attendees, divided into different workshops, will propose various resources for the assembly of cross-border climate action projects

The Hondarribia Young Hostel (Albergue foral) is the venue for youth meetings. The mayor, Mr Txomin Sagarzazu, together with Mrs. Idoia Arauzo, director of the CTP Youth Working Group, and Mr Jean-Louis Valls, Director of the Pyrenees Work Community, received this afternoon the group of young attendees.

Mrs. Idoia Arauzo, technical director of Youth of the CTP explains, “On Friday the 30th the various workshops and debates will begin and in the afternoon the group will travel by boat to the Hendaye marina. There, in Sokoburu, a group of young people from Biarritz will detail various projects for environmental awareness and sustainable development. Mr. Gorka Oyarzune (Water Family Organization) and Mr Julien Gerbet, from Blutopia, both from Biarritz and la Rochelle, will explain to the members of the Forum how 70% of the planet's surface corresponds to oceans and how these influence the Earth's temperature.

On Saturday, October 1, various institutional representatives from the Pyrenees regions will visit the Forum headquarters to listen to the final manifesto and exchange impressions with the attendees. In the afternoon, they will cycle through the Bidasoa Green Route in the area of Doneztebe/Santesteban, Navarra. On Sunday 2, the meeting will end with the reading of the conclusions and presentation of projects. The first Trans-Pyrenean Youth Forum held last year in Jaca, Huesca.

La ville d'Hondarribia (Gipuzkoa) accueille, à partir d'aujourd'hui, du jeudi au dimanche 2 octobre, la célébration du 2e Forum Transpyrénéen de la Jeunesse au cours duquel quatre-vingts jeunes de Nouvelle Aquitaine, Occitaine, Catalogne, Andorre, Aragon, Navarre et Pays Basque discutera du changement climatique et de l'adaptation à celui-ci dans les régions et les pays des Pyrénées.

Selon Jean-Louis Valls, directeur de la Communauté de Travail Pyrénées, « lors de la rencontre, quatre-vingts jeunes parleront de la situation posée par le changement climatique et des initiatives et actions qui peuvent être développées pour le prévenir, l'adapter et le combattre. Les jeunes sont le secteur social le plus conscient des environnements et des conditions dans lesquels ils doivent vivre et pour cette raison, ce sont eux qui voient le plus clairement la nécessité d'agir ».

La devise du Forum est « L'impact du changement climatique dans les Pyrénées : que pouvons-nous faire ?». Tout au long de la conférence, les jeunes participants, répartis en différents ateliers, proposeront diverses ressources pour le montage de projets transfrontaliers d'action pour le climat

L'Albergue de Hondarribia est le lieu de rencontre des jeunes. Le maire, Txomin Sagarzazu, accompagné d'Idoia Arauzo, directrice du groupe de travail jeunesse du CTP, et Jean-Louis Valls, directeur de la Communauté de travail des Pyrénées, ont reçu cet après-midi le groupe de jeunes participants.

Idoia Arauzo, directrice technique des Jeunes du CTP explique que « le vendredi 30 débuteront les différents ateliers et débats et l'après-midi le groupe se rendra en bateau au port de plaisance d'Hendaye. À Sokoburu, un groupe de jeunes de Biarritz détaillera différents projets de sensibilisation à l'environnement et de développement durable. L'association WATER FAMILY (Du flocon à la Vague) participe à la rencontre. Gorka Oyarzune (Water Family) et Julien Gerbet, de Blutopia, tous deux de Biarritz et La Rochelle, expliqueront aux membres du Forum comment 70% de la surface de la planète correspondent aux océans et comment ceux-ci influencent la température de la Terre.

Le samedi 1er octobre, divers représentants institutionnels des régions pyrénéennes se rendront au siège du Forum pour écouter le manifeste final et échanger leurs impressions avec les participants. Dans l'après-midi, ils parcourront la Route Verte de la Bidassoa dans la région de Doneztebe/Santesteban, Navarre. Le dimanche 2, la réunion se terminera par la lecture des conclusions et la présentation des projets. Le premier Forum transpyrénéen de la jeunesse s'est tenu l'année dernière à Jaca, Huesca.
