International experts analyse federalist systems in Bilbao
Bilbao is to provide the venue for the International Congress on "The Paths of Federalism and the Horizons of the Autonomous Region", set to run until Friday
The Minister for Justice and Public Administration, Idoia Mendia, was charged with the task of inaugurating the International Conference entitled "The Paths of Federalism and the Horizons of the Autonomous Region", which analyses the current situation of the federal system. Ms Mendia expressed her conviction that the "politically solvent" future of the Basque Country "can only be achieved, as things stand at the minute, at the heart of a sound federal system in Spain".
Idoia Mendia, during the inaugural speech, drew attention to the fact that the "references are necessarily the federalist systems", affirming that "our system aspires to be the same as these systems: recognising internal diversity as the basis of a more solid and stable democratic system".
The Department of Constitutional Law and the History of Political Thought of the University of the Basque Country organised the International Congress on the Paths of Federalism and the Horizons of the Autonomous Region, celebrated in the auditorium of the UPV in Bilbao. The Minister for Justice and Public Administration was charged with the task of inaugurating the Congress.
