Agurtzane Llano: "We have requested the extension of European Youth Card offer to more municipal services of culture, leisure, and transport"

2022 January 31
  • The Director of Youth of the Basque Government wishes to extend the application of the Youth Card to the maximum number of municipalities
  • Gazte Txartela is valid throughout Europe (EYCA-European Youth Card Association)

Vitoria-Gasteiz, 2022 01 31

These days, the Youth Directorate of the Department of Equality, Justice and Social Policies of the Basque Government makes various contacts with the municipalities of the Autonomous Community so that they can extend the offer of municipal services to those who own the “Gazte Txartela” -or “European Youth Card”-  that offers Basque Youth attractive discounts on access to sports and cultural facilities, transport and commerce throughout Europe.

Mrs. Agurtzane Llano, director of Youth, explains to the Mayors that the "programme aims to promote various commercial advantages, activities, transport, culture, leisure and sports aimed at Basque Youth that will contribute to improving their quality of life and the promotion of their participation and integration in society”. His promotion coincides with this European Year of Youth 2022.

“This is an effective generalized service throughout the European Union. It is aimed at people between the ages of 14 and 29 (included) and tries to promote those strategic sectors such as, among others, training, sports, culture and health”, explains Llano to the town councils. As of December 2019, the Gazte-Txartela is free and sent from the Basque Government directly to your home to those who turn 14, without the need to request it.

According to Llano, “in this new stage we have increased the advantages of the Gazte-Txartela and, in this sense, it seems essential to us to establish a greater involvement of the Basque Country City Councils. For this reason, we contact those municipal services that require an economic cost to Youth and analyse to what extent they can be incorporated into the current offer”.

The European Youth Card is present in 37 European countries, and although it will help, you obtain discounts, advantages and multiple benefits in all these countries, in each one it issued by a different organization. The Basque Government Youth Directorate has a consultation service on the telephone numbers +34 682 306 102 and +34 945 01 95 11, in addition to the emails gaztetxartela@gmail.com and gaztetxartela@euskadi.eus .
