87.6% of youth in the Basque Country between the ages of 15 and 29 take measures to guarantee their privacy on social networks, according to data published by the Basque Youth Observatory, of the Department of Equality, Justice and Social Policies of the Basque Government. The report "The youth of the Basque Country and social networks" that the Observatory carried out in 2018 based on the results of a survey of 1,512 young residents of the Basque Country exposes this data coinciding with the European Data Protection Day.

Data Protection Day has celebrated in Europe since 2006. Its main objective is to raise awareness and inform the population about data protection rights; and how to exercise them. The majority of young people in the Basque Country say they take some measure to guarantee their privacy on social networks and that only certain people see their content (87.6%).

Young women take measures to guarantee their privacy in greater proportion than young men do (91.8% and 83.6% respectively).   In the analysis by sex and age groups, it is observed that, among men, those between 15 and 19 years old are the ones who most adopt privacy measures and their percentage decreases as they get older; among women, on the other hand, there are no significant differences according to age.
