For ten days, Bilbao will become the headquarters of the CERN Accelerator School

2011 May 25

Approximately a hundred researchers and scientists from all over the world will participate in this particle physics course

The European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), based close to Geneva, is now celebrating its Accelerator School, an advanced course that will bring together approximately one hundred researchers and scientists from all over the world, who will travel to Bilbao and remain there for 10 days in order to address the most important matters relating to high-power particle accelerator technology, similar to the accelerator set to be built in Lund as part of the ESS project and similar to the accelerator currently being developed by ESS-Bilbao.

The course, entitled High Power Hadron Machines, will focus on addressing matters relating to high-power hadron accelerators (protons, antiprotons and other ions) such as the LHC in CERN and others currently in the planning phase.

The "Abandoibarra, Bilbao. The ceremony was attended by the Minister for Education, Universities and Research, Isabel Celaá.

The scientific team of ESS-Bilbao is collaborating with CERN to construct a new accelerator called Linac4. During their stay in Bilbao, those participating in the course will be received by Basque Government authorities (Department of Education) and by the leading figures within the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU).
