TVET world leaders will gather in October in San Sebastián to claim “excellence for all”
- For the first time ever, the Basque Country will be holding the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) World Congress. The World Congress, which takes place every two years, will be held in October 2020 under the theme ‘Excellence for All’.
- The registration process for the congress, which will host internationally acclaimed TVET experts from the five continents, is already open.
- The congress will address matters such as: the 4th industrial revolution, digitalisation and the world of Industry 4.0; as well as sustainable development, gender equality, migrations and inclusion in TVET.
- Expert speakers from all over the world will participate in round tables and discussion groups and the best international examples of good practices will be shown in order to respond to the challenges of the future.
The main TVET global meeting this year, the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) World Congress, will be held in San Sebastián between October 11th and 16th. Taking place for the second time in Europe and for the first time in the Basque Country, the WFCP 2020 will be focused on TVET platforms of excellence, in order to guarantee the best educational opportunities for all students, regardless of their vocation, birthplace or cultural and economic background.
The registration process for the congress, which will bring together more than 600 TVET professionals from around the world in the Kursaal Congress Centre, is already open for all those interested. San Sebastian will take up the torch of the congress after the last meeting, held in Sydney (Australia) in 2018. Co-organised by Tknika (a research centre in the field of TVET promoted by the Ministry of Education of the Basque Country) and the Association of Colleges (AOC) from the United Kingdom, together with the WFCP, it will be the second time that the World Congress has been held in Europe.
The TVET week will be focused on training professionals from different countries in good practices and in one of the leading TVET systems in the world, the Basque TVET system. A system which has been selected by the European Commission as one of the TVET excellence platforms to be used as an example for building the future European TVET model. The Basque system orbits around Tknika, the research and applied innovation centre promoted by the TVET Deputy Ministry of the Education Department of the Basque Government.
Although the main congress will be on October 15th and 16th, between October 11th and 16th there will be many different TVET activities taking place in San Sebastian. The talks will revolve around three main topics which are closely connected to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations: TVET in the global economy – including the progress of the 4th industrial revolution, digitalisation, and the world of Industry 4.0 –, inclusion and platforms of excellence in the field of TVET; all of them weaved together with deep-rooted debates such as gender equality or migration.
The theme of the World Congress, ‘Excellence for All’, upholds that in order not to leave anyone behind, what is needed is a strong and leading-edge TVET system able to foresee the challenges ahead.
