Leading role for wave energy at the EU Sustainable Energy Week 2011
The Basque Delegation in Brussels hosted an event on wave energy within the framework of the EU Sustainable Energy Week 2011
Approximately 100 prominent experts on wave energy met at the offices of the Basque Delegation in Brussels in order to widen their knowledge and exchange their experiences in the field of wave and tidal energy, consolidating the Basque Country's commitment to oceanic energy.
During the seminar, which took place within the framework of the EU Sustainable Energy Week, the results of the EquiMar project were presented, along with details of the Basque Country's commitment to oceanic energy and, in particular, the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BIMEP) project. BIMEP is an infrastructure project set up in Arminza, on the coast of Biscay, that makes it possible to investigate, demonstrate and utilise systems to harness wave energy on the open sea.
The participants of the EquiMar project are dedicated to measuring and comparing different wave energy-capture devices, proposing placement sites and helping governments invest in the best systems. The project is co-funded by the 2007-2013 Seventh Framework Program for Research and participants include the technology company TECNALIA and the European Ocean Energy Association, of which the Ente Vasco de la Energía (Basque Energy Agency - EVE) is a member.
