The Minister of Employment and Social Policies of the Basque Government, Beatriz Artolazabal, believes that "deaths by suicide have always been present in societies, but can be prevented and reduced, especially among people with mental illness. Professionally speaking about suicide, a priority issue in the area of ​​health and social care.

Artolazabal has participated, in the Villa Suso Palace of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of the Basque Country, in the seminar "Breaking the Taboo of Silence", which involves 160 health and social care professionals, organized by Asafes, association of relatives of people with mental illnesses.

"It is important to define how the media have to address the issue of suicide to prevent it as much as possible. It is evident that not all cases are susceptible to this, but many. The important thing is that the media, and society in the new communication channels, do so without sensationalism, without yellowing and with rigor. You have to talk about suicide with respect; we must all be responsible”, Minister Artolazabal explained.

"The issue of suicide is one of the few that usually avoid or respect, by the media because, from the faculties of Journalism is recommended to avoid references to cancel the so-called" contagion effects". These invisible deaths, as they call them, have always been present in societies. Specialized conferences, such as today, help to prevent and reduce these sad situations, especially among people with mental illness", added Beatriz Artolazabal.
