Change the Change Conference to be showcased at Berdeago, the Basque environmental sustainability fair

2019 February 1
  • Over the next two weekends, Ihobe, the Basque Government’s environmental management agency, will be at the Durango fair to showcase its Ekoetxea environmental centre network and the climate change conference to be held at the Kursaal conference centre in Donostia/San Sebastián.

Ihobe, the Basque Government’s environmental management agency, will be at the Berdeago fair in Durango (Bizkaia) over the coming two weekends.  Its stand will showcase the wide range of activities at the Ekoetxea environmental centre network and, in particular, it will unveil the 'Change the Change’ International Climate Change Conference, which will be held in San Sebastian from 6 to 8 March.

Berdeago, the Basque environmental sustainability fair, is divided into two different areas. On the one hand, Energy is being held this weekend (1 – 3 February) to exhibit the latest innovations in energy efficiency, sustainable mobility and environmental innovation. On the other hand, Berdeago Nature will run on 9 and 10 February and will feature Zero Km and organic food products, along with stands on the social economy, health and wellbeing, along with social projects.

Ihobe will therefore be attending the fair to showcase some of its most innovative initiatives in this field. Climate change is one of the problems that most greatly impacts all aspects of life and the Basque Government is acting in different directions in that regard.

One of the highlights of the year will be the Change the Change Conference that will gather 600 people together at the Kursaal Conference Centre in San Sebastián, with around fifty experts who will give papers covering eight different themes.

The Ihobe stand at Berdeago will devote a special space to the conference. In fact, Jesús Losada, its general manager, today stressed during the opening of the fair that Change the Change “will be a milestone in the Basque Country’s action against global warming and its impacts”.

The space featuring Change the Change will disseminate the programme, the speakers and themes to the visitors at the Durango fair. The conference will part of the first Basque Climate Change Week - Asteklima, which will be run in different locations of the Basque Country from 1 to 10 March 2019.  There will an extensive calendar of activities with something for everyone. The aim of Asteklima is to rally the public to make a personal commitment to fight climate change, on the premise that any action, however small, makes a difference.
