The Young Basque Volunteers who in summer will help various communities in Asia, Africa and America, have left from Bilbao airport this morning

Today, Thursday, July 5, at 5 o'clock in the morning, 12 young Basque cooperators, out of a total of 99, have departed from the Bilbao airport: 8 to Peru, 2 to Cameroon and 2 to India. Yesterday afternoon, 13 more young people left for the center of Africa. The director of Youth of the Department of Employment and Social Policies of the Basque Government, Ander Añibarro, has come to say goodbye to them praising his "delivery, solidarity and initiative". For three months they will carry out development cooperation tasks.
Last week Minister Beatriz Artolazabal handed out the passages and documentation to 99 Basque cooperators who this summer participate in different projects of 20 Non-Governmental Organizations for Development-NGDOs in America, Asia and Africa. For three months they will help in water and sanitation tasks, education, childhood, empowerment and training of women, health, elderly people, and infrastructures.
The activities in which the group of Basque cooperators will participate for three months will focus on water and sanitation provisions, education for children, empowerment and training of women, infrastructures, health training, care for the elderly or preparation of education centers. The countries of destination of the various projects of the NGDOs are Colombia, Peru, the Philippines islands, Guatemala, Honduras, Bolivia, Ecuador, India, Haiti, Mexico, Senegal, Mozambique, Cameroon and Mexico.
The hundred young people have been selected from among almost 700 who have held various meetings during the weekends developed in winter in Vitoria-Gasteiz with those responsible for the projects.
The Non-Governmental Organizations for Development that organize the aid projects supported by the Basque Government are: Passionist Sisters, Serso San Viator of Euskal Herria, World Rural Forum, Ayuda Más Foundation, Xenofobiaren Aurka Taldea, Berdinak gara, Solidaridad Internacional, Haurralde Fundación, Youth and Development Foundation, Architects Without Borders, Benito Menni Foundation, Medicus Mundi Bizkaia, Ayuda en Acción, Hegoaizia, Manuel Iradier Africanist Association, Taupadak, Southern Mozambique, Juan Ciudad Fundazioa GGKE and the Youth and Development Foundation.
