Beatriz Artolazabal, Minister of Employment and Social Policies of the Basque Government, pointed out this morning that "pursuing with eagerness an inclusive, one-speed society, where we all walk at the same pace, is not a declaration of intent. it is a right that we must preserve. "During the inauguration of the 'Independent Life' Day organized by Eginaren Eginez, association of persons with disabilities of Araba / Álava, the Minister (Sailburu in basque language) Artolazabal recalled that in the Basque Country there are 185,000 people with disabilities.
"In the Basque Country, the drive of people with disabilities, their families and associations and public institutions, has made us move forward. That effort has been collaborative, underlining concept "has indicated the Minister.
At the Conference held in the European Congress Center of Vitoria-Gasteiz (the basque capital), Minister Artolazabal recalled that "the accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities are fundamental rights recognized by the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of the United Nations "
"In that task we will continue working collaboratively. It is about improving the quality of life of people; to promote the autonomy and the development of all the potentialities of the people", remarked Mrs. Artolazabal.
Mrs. Beatriz Artolazabal has stressed "the need for planning that is based on responding to the needs of the person served with her and her family in mind, which results in a better quality of life for the people for whom the Basque Government works, of the hand of the Third Social Sector and the rest of institutions ".
Next Sunday, day 3, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is celebrated. Therefore the Minister Artolazabal recalled that "in the world, according to the United Nations, one in seven people suffer some type of disability" and stressed that "the prevalence of disability is greater among women than among men."
