The Minister for Employment and Social Policies Basque Government, Beatriz Artolazabal, believes that the current Basque society "offers an opportunity for young generations to incorporate, contribute and lead a positive social transformation for the welfare of all people."
Artolazabal has participated in a Conference dedicated to youth employment, called "Gazte Up", in the Palace of Congresses Europe of the capital of Basque Country organized by the Group Vocento Communication, along with Iñaki Ortega, Jorge Guelbenzu, Pedro Ibáñez, José Ignacio Eguizábal, Joana Aranbalza, David Montero, Eneritz Zubizarreta and Mrs Amaia Acha-Orbea.
"The commitment of the Basque Government to employment is a priority especially after a long and difficult economic crisis that has suffered our country like much of Europe. More employment is needed: for all people, young people who come to the markets or who want to improve their work; for women, or for those looking for a job after years of unemployment. With quality and a fair remuneration to those who perform them”, highlighted the Minister.
According to Artolazabal explained to those attending the conference, especially students of Economics and Business Administration and Management, "the work skill is achieved with an experience with other people who participate in that same area of work or company. It is there where the development of everything learned by that young person will also have room that will also contribute to the veterans a rich knowledge and method".
"Now, in the Basque Government we finalize the Strategic Employment Plan 2017-2020 that will be framed in the Framework Program for Employment and Economic Reactivation 2017-2020 within the Basque Employment Strategy 2020. We have reflected the reality of the labor market of Basque Country (Euskadi in basque language), their needs and shortcomings and thus anticipate future needs with concrete actions, proposals and policies”, announced Beatriz Artolazabal.
The Strategic Employment Plan includes 9 operational areas, one of which is dedicated to youth employment, where there are a number of programs such as the educational transition to the world of work, youth return and support for youth entrepreneurship.
"Today we find 11.5% unemployment and we are committed to reduce it below 10% in relation to 2020. The youth unemployment rate stands at 15.9%. 4,000 young people have already had a first opportunity for work experience. Youth employment is a priority for us and the objectives we have set ourselves are achievable" said Artolazabal.
"European society, and within it Basque, has to open a great door to access to employment for those young people who will develop new social forms and coexistence, more inclusive and solidarity, more rational and with a sustainable vision of the future. Due to the new life expectancy and the demographic declines that Europe knows, our long-lived society offers an opportunity for young generations to incorporate, contribute and lead a positive social transformation for the well-being of all people" proposed Minister Mrs Beatriz Artolazabal.
The Minister of Employment and Social Policies has also proposed "a boost to entrepreneurship. The Promotion of Entrepreneurship is another of the operational areas that we develop in the Strategic Employment Plan. It is necessary to revitalize the entrepreneurial culture in Basque Country and offer the necessary resources to facilitate the creation of new companies, supporting the initiatives of self-employment and entrepreneurship".
"In the Basque Government - said Artolazabal at the meeting held in Vitoria-Gasteiz- we are optimistic: 20,000 young people from Basque Country will have a first work experience during this term. That is our goal. From the Basque Government we foster a strong impulse to youth entrepreneurship. Training opens the doors of the labor market. Those who lack it are the ones with the fewest opportunities. The economic crisis has not given opportunities to our young people. Currently the rate of youth unemployment is the one that most strongly decreases".
