Minister Beatriz Artolazabal: "we have prepared a long-term strategy to guarantee family development"

The Minister for Employment and Social Policies of the Basque Government, Beatriz Artolazabal, has proposed to the Family Basque Council meeting this morning in Vitoria-Gasteiz "a pact for families and for children whose strategy is basic intervention and involvement of different departments of the Government, Emakunde, Foral Governments, Town halls and social agents, family organizations, companies participating in the Basque Family Council. We have prepared a long-term strategy to guarantee family development".

 

Beatriz Artolazabal, presided this morning the meeting of the Basque Family Council in which Lide Amilibia, Deputy Minister of Social Policies, and Ernesto Sainz Lanchares, director of Family and Diversity, as well as representatives of other departments and institutions, participated.

 

At the meeting, the Family Strategy prepared by the Department of Employment and Social Policies was analyzed. The Basque Government departments, family organizations, provincial councils, municipalities, business associations and social agents will contribute initiatives.

 

After emphasizing "the involvement of the Lehendakari Urkullu (the basque president) with family and childhood policies" Artolazabal stressed "the importance of families as nuclei of human relationship and social, affective and community education," and commented "the policies that facilitate people with family responsibilities and those who want to constitute a family the realization of their vital project in the best possible conditions, working to overcome economic or labor difficulties that may prevent it. In this context, within the framework of the Basque Country 2020 Government Program, the Basque Government has established among its country objectives to increase the birth rate”.

 

Differences

Beatriz Artolazabal considers remarkable "the persistence of gender differences in the care of daughters and sons. There is a direct relationship between the birth deficit and the persistence of gender inequalities, especially with regard to accountability in the upbringing and structuring of social times. The distribution of domestic tasks among the employed and employed in the Basque Country is very uneven".

 

"There are many other things to talk about as positive parenting, co-responsibility, etc., concepts that will be part of our strategy. They are part of what we call "the Basque strategy for investment in families and children" with the aim that the Basque citizenship has the desired offspring" highlighted Artolazabal.

 

The Minister has proposed "a great country pact if we want to successfully tackle the challenge of improving our birth rates, so necessary to ensure a thriving and modern country, our pensions, to feed our companies labor… and for that reason I invite you to work on this strategy, in order to achieve a great pact for families and children”.

 

To this end, Artolazabal has proposed to the Family Council "a Pact for families and for children in whose strategy is the intervention and involvement of different government departments (Education -early care, extension and reinforcement of child care services and Youth, Employment, Economic Development and Infrastructures, Emakunde -recommendations of conciliation co-responsibility in companies and domiciles-, Treasury, and the three Foral (provincial) Councils, Town Councils and the Basque Family Council ".
