The GDP of the Basque Country posted 0.6% positive year-on-year growth
The Basque Country Gross Domestic Product (GDP) posted positive year-on-year growth (0.6%) with respect to the same quarter of the previous year, once corrected for calendar and seasonal effects, according to the advance data prepared by EUSTAT. It is the second consecutive quarter with positive year-on-year growth, after six consecutive negative quarters. Year-on-year growth of the Spanish economy stood at 0.2%, according to the data advanced by the Spanish Statistics Office (INE).
With respect to the previous quarter, there was no fluctuation in the GDP growth rate of the Basque Country in the third quarter of 2010, which registered a rate of 0.0%. This meant a slowing down of the quarter-on-quarter growth after the upward trend registered in the previous three quarters. This rate is identical to the estimate for the Spanish economy.
The bases of the year-on-year growth in this quarter lie in the better performance by the primary and industrial sectors. The service sector posted positive growth, but more moderately than in the previous quarter. However, the activity of the Construction sectors continued in its negative trend of the previous quarters.
