King Felipe VI and the Lehendakari attend the Velatia Group's 50th anniversary
King Felipe VI of Spain and Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu, the Basque Premier, attended the ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the Velatia Group, which was held at the company's headquarters in Amorebieta-Etxano (Bizkaia). The Basque Government's Minister for Economic Development and Infrastructures, Arantxa Tapia, was also present at the event.
They were shown around by the Velatia CEO, Javier Ormazabal, and visited the company's High Power laboratory and its Demonstration and Experimentation Unit. It is the only laboratory of this type worldwide where the different medium-voltage electricity distribution grids to be found around the world can be reproduced on an experimental basis. This facility is specifically designed to develop Smart Grid related technologies.
Velatia is a family-run industrial and technology group operating internationally, whose different business lines contribute to the development of electricity grids, electronics and communication networks, along with driving energy efficiency, aeronautics, smart engineering and a new housing concept.
Over those 50 years, the company has incorporated companies complementing Velatia's industrial activity. The group now consists of eleven companies: Ormazabal, Ikusi, Wec, Knock, Stratenergy, Homm, Smarmec, Uniblok, Polsa, Tecnichapa, and Gosa. With a turnover of EUR 575 million, Velatia is made up of over 3,000 professionals working on five continents.
