Entries are open for the 2015 European Business Awards for the Environment which will recognise cutting-edge Basque companies
The Basque Government’s Ministry of the Environment and Territorial Policy has announced that entries are open in the Basque Country of the European Business Awards for the Environment 2015 run by the European Commission. These awards recognise companies that successfully combine the economic viability of their businesses with protecting the environment by means of eco-innovations in their management, processes, products or services, in business cooperation or by combining business and biodiversity.
Since 2001, the Basque Government’s Ministry of the Environment and Territorial Policy, in conjunction with its publicly-owned company Ihobe, has been tasked with managing the Basque Country section of the European Business Awards for the Environment in coordination with the Biodiversity Foundation, an entity of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, that has managed the Spanish section since 2013.
The Basque companies that enter the Basque Country section of these awards will be competing first in the Basque arena to make it through to the Spanish and then European levels, where they will compete against the winning companies of the different member countries.
The companies can enter the management, product and/or service, process and international business cooperation categories. Micro, small and medium-sized companies and large corporations can be the winners in each category. All the companies that meet the requirements will also be entered in the “Company and Biodiversity” special category. In the Basque Country, they can enter the "Competitiveness and Market" special category.
Companies that have their registered office and whose core business is in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country can take part. Publicly-owned companies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Institutions and other non-profits can only participate as a partner of a company in the International Cooperation for Sustainable Development category. In this case, the entry will be submitted by the company.
Since the first time that these awards were held in 2001, over a hundred Basque companies have entered these awards and have taken 25% of the prizes in the Spanish section and several prizes and been runners-up at European level.
Entries can be submitted up until 23.45 hours on 16 November, using the official forms available on the Ihobe website. The winners will be announced in early 2016.
Full information on these awards is available on the Ihobe website, www.ihobe.net.
