The University of the Basque Country makes progress in becoming an international campus of excellence
Today, July 8, the General Secretariat for Universities of the Education Ministry sent the Department of Education and Research the minutes of the meeting of the Technical Committee held on June 28 and 29 to assess the requests submitted to the International Campus of Excellence Programme for the year 2010.
As a result of this analysis, the coordinated joint proposal of the University of the Basque Country, Corporación Tecnológica Tecnalia and the Donostia International Physics Centre has been selected in third place from among the top seven proposals submitted and, consequently, will be assessed by the committee of international experts responsible for awarding the International Campus of Excellence category. Likewise, the proposal of Mondragon Unibertsitatea was also appraised positively.
The Department of Education, Universities and Research wishes to express its satisfaction with a project that is of great interest for the Basque Country as a whole as it represents a decisive step in the Basque University's efforts to increase the amount and quality of its research and to secure an efficient transfer of knowledge to society and the business sector.
Moreover, the securing of 570,000 euros in this state-wide programme to co-finance a wide range of activities of the Basque University is also excellent news as it will provide incentives to finalise the preparation of the definitive proposal to be assessed by the commission of international experts.
Lastly, the Department of Education, Universities and Research wishes to congratulate those who have collaborated in the drafting of these proposals, and is confident that the commission of international experts will recognise the strategic importance of the proposals submitted by the Basque University System.
