4th Ramon Rubial Awards
The Lehendakari, Patxi Lopez, chaired the Ramon Rubial Awards presentation ceremony in Bilbao
At this, the fourth Ramon Rubial Awards, the prize-winners were Mundukide Fundazioa; Sociedad Deportiva de Remo Kaiku; the publisher, Ernesto Santolaya; the ex-president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela; Resol YPF and Mercedes Benz España; and the Interior Minister, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba.
The Ramon Rubial Awards are presented on a yearly basis to those individuals or entities who, in the opinion of the Board of Trustees of the Ramon Rubial Fundazioa Foundation, have done outstanding work during the year in search of higher levels of freedom, democracy, solidarity and tolerance.
The Lehendakari, Patxi Lopez, chaired the presentation of the Ramon Rubial Awards this evening at a ceremony held at the Campos Elíseos Theatre in Bilbao. The aim of these awards is to reward those individuals or entities who, in the opinion of the Board of Trustees of the Ramon Rubial Fundazioa Foundation, have done outstanding work during the year in search of higher levels of freedom, democracy, solidarity and tolerance.
The fourth Ramon Rubial Awards was attended by the president of the Foundation, Lentxu Rubial Camps and a large number of socialist representatives.
The Lehendakari presented the Ramon Rubial 2009 award for Innovation, which on this occasion was shared by Repsol YPF and Mercedes-Benz España. The Executive President of Repsol YPF, Antonio Brufau and the Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz, Emilio Titos received the award. The Prize for the defence of socialist values was presented to the Interior Minister, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba. The Minister received the award from the president of the Foundation, Lentxu Rubial.
The Ramon Rubial Award 2009 for solidarity and cooperation was given to Mundukide Fundazioa. Its president received the award from Imanol Zubero. The Foundation's Sporting Entity of the Year prize went to Sociedad de Remo, Kaiku. The president of Sociedad Deportiva de Remo Kaiku, Jose Manuel Monje, and its trainer José Luis Korta received the award from Damaso Echevarria.
Lastly, the prize for the Defence of Culture and Liberty went to Ernesto Santolaya Molino and Nelson Mandela was given the award for his Defence of Democratic Values.
