ABSTRACT
THE BASQUE GOVERNMENT EARMARKS 1.8 MILLION EUROS FOR THE LOCAL PROMOTION OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
To combine municipal action with the environmental priorities of the III Environmental Framework Programme EFP 2011-2014
The Basque Government has today agreed to earmark 1.8 million euros in subsidies to local councils, supramunicipal associations, local authorities, local autonomous bodies, local development agencies and local business corporations that implement actions fostering sustainable development in order to bring the municipal action in line with the environmental priorities established in the III Environmental Framework Programme (EFP) 2011-2014.
As Minister Ana Oregi explained, the subsidies will be for research work and the recovery of the quality of local publicly-owned land as regards actions for contaminated land; when it comes to the Atmosphere, for the improvement of ambient air quality, actions relating to noise, and actions aimed at offsetting greenhouse gas emissions and minimising the impacts of climate change in the BAC; Biodiversity, for conserving, restoring or improving the biological biodiversity of the BAC; and as regards the School Agenda 21 for the coordination between the Local Agenda 21 and School Agenda 21.
The total amount comes to 1,810,000 broken down into: Contaminated Land (550,000) euros; Atmosphere (550,000) euros; Biodiversity (550,000) euros; and School Agenda 21 (160,000) euros.
