
The First Minister of Wales visits the IBM Quantum System Two computer with Basque Minister Pérez Iglesias
The Basque Minister of Science, Universities and Innovation, Juan Ignacio Pérez Iglesias, this morning received the First Minister of Wales, Eluned Morgan, at the Ikerbasque building in Donostia, where the IBM Quantum System Two is installed. The visit was focused on the opportunity to see first-hand the capacities and potential of this system, the first of its kind in Europe.
During the meeting, Minister Pérez Iglesias presented the Basque Quantum strategy, driven by the Basque Government's Department of Science, Universities and Innovation and the provincial councils, which has made it possible to install the quantum computer in Donostia and placing Euskadi at the vanguard of quantum technology in Europe. The Deputy Minister for Science and Innovation, Adolfo Morais, explained the main features of the computer.
The visit, and the subsequent meeting, was attended by Basque Minister Pérez Iglesias; Deputy Minister Morais; the Scientific Director of Ikerbasque, Fernando Cossio; Secretary General for External Action and Euskadi Global, Ander Caballero; and Director of European Affairs, Mikel Antón.
The delegation from the Government of Wales, headed by First Minister Morgan included Andrew Gwatkin, Director of International Relations and Trade for the Government of Wales, and Geraint Huxtable, Head of International Partnerships and Policy, among others.
This morning's meeting took place within the framework of the official visit of the First Minister of Wales to the Basque Country from 7 to 9 January, which includes institutional meetings and visits to different strategic stakeholders in the area of innovation, industry and international promotion.
