€1.5 million in aid for the digitalization of the food and timber chain
The Cabinet of the Basque Government has approved the call for applications for grants to support the digitalization of the food and timber chain in the Basque Country for the year 2025.
Companies looking to make the leap to introduce digital systems will have the option to finance services such as comprehensive digitalization plans or the incorporation of digital tools for the different areas of activity such as the management, production or marketing of products linked to the food and timber value chain, among others.
A total of €1,500,000 has been allocated for this programme: €300,000 to the projects of companies starting out on their digitalization journey; €550,000 to projects at an advanced stage of digitalization and seeking the incorporation of 4.0 technology, and €650,000 to the acquisition of electronic collars for livestock farm owners.
Aid for fishing fleets and enterprises
The Cabinet today approved €466,950 in grants to fishing companies affected by the reduction in mackerel catch quotas.
The total mackerel quota allocated to this segment of the Basque fleet for 2025 was 3,818,820 kilos and the consumption by the fleet was 529,239.00 kilos, leaving 3,289,581.00 kilos of mackerel uncaught. Given the exceptional nature of this situation, the Basque Government considered it essential to adopt emergency short-term measures in order to try to minimise the impact on the fishing sector.
It also approved the award of €160,000 in grants to the fishing fleet affected by the end of the agreement between the European Union and Senegal. Five years since the last protocol was signed, which has not been renewed, the EU fleet has not been able to carry out any fishing activities since November last year.
After more than five months, the affected fleet has not received any income as it has been unable to fish. Direct aid will therefore be granted to try to compensate in part for the lack of income and the expenses incurred by the fleet during the five months moored in the port of Dakar.
Support for music schools in the Basque Country
The Basque Cabinet has today approved the Orders announcing the grants to contribute to the financing of the costs of musical education centres. There are two distinct lines, one for municipally-owned centres and the other for private centres. Both calls will involve an investment of over €16.4 million.
Grants for semi-private vocational training centres
The Basque Cabinet has approved the call for grants for semi-private education centres providing Vocational Training cycles. This grant programme, with a budget of €166,000, aims to encourage the development of projects that promote a culture of entrepreneurship among students in their final year of Vocational Training cycles this academic year.
The Basque Country's Vocational Training system focuses on furthering the lifelong, flexible and accessible training for students, generating opportunities to encourage their proactivity in starting companies.
Grants to cover the costs of the Municipal Justice Offices
The Cabinet today approved the call for applications for grants for Basque local councils to cover the operating costs of Municipal Justice Offices in the year 2025, with a budget of €478,150.
Municipal Justice Offices, which have replaced the Peace Courts, assume the functions of citizen services in matters of justice. Maintenance is the responsibility of the local councils, although the Basque Government will provide support for the management of the running costs of these judicial bodies.
40 scholarships to prepare for entry to the judicial, public prosecution and legal careers in the Justice Administration
The Cabinet today approved a call for financial assistance for people preparing for the competitive examinations for the judicial, public prosecution and legal careers in the Justice Administration. With an allocation of €264,000, 40 scholarships will be funded in 2026 to cover their preparation costs and attract talent.
The purpose of this initiative is to provide the Justice Administration with stable staff resources and, at the same time, ensure greater efficiency and quality of public service. It also aims to promote stable staffing levels in the Justice Administration and to strengthen public confidence in a quality public service.
