
Mexico: 23 Basque wine and cider producers from the Rioja Alavesa, Txakoli and Euskal Sagardoa designations hold 100 business meetings, 6 tastings and 2 showrooms

The promotional activity of the delegation of 23 Basque wine and cider producers from the Rioja Alavesa, Txakoli and Euskal Sagardoa designations, with importers, distributors, press and institutional representatives of the governments of Mexico and its states saw them host close to 100 B2B business meetings with companies without importers in Mexico City and Guadalajara. The delegation also managed 2 showrooms, one in CDMX and the other in Guadalajara welcoming 280 visitors, as well as hosting 6 specialised tastings for 110 professionals. There were 43 sales actions and meetings for wine and cider producers already present in Mexico with representatives in the country's capital, La Puebla, Monterrey and Guadalajara.
Amaia Barredo, Minister of Food, Rural Development, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Basque Government, was satisfied with the outcome of the event for the Basque delegation of Rioja Alavesa and Txakoli wine producers, as well as Euskal Sagardoa cider producers with importers, distributors, influencers and press, as well as with eight institutional representations of the governments of Mexico and its regional states.
“Now is the time for the gastronomic and commercial professionals contacted to analyse the business possibilities offered by our wine and cider producers, and start drawing up contracts and sales agreements," said Amaia Barredo, alongside the Basque Government delegate in Mexico, Ainhoa Apeztegia. Both have promoted the EDA Drinks & Wine Campus and GOe (Gastronomy Open Ecosystem) initiatives coming soon in Laguardia, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Donostia-San Sebastián.
"Our wine and cider producers return home satisfied, having seen how there is room for their sales , especially in light of the positive comments received after the exhibition of our wines, txakoli and ciders. We've made a good start, now we have to develop on that," added Barredo.
On the final day in Mexico, the Basque delegation held a meeting with Javier Arroyo, chair of the Board of the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism, and organised a showroom with an exhibition of Basque wines and ciders at Bruna, one of Guadalajara's gastronomic hot spots.
The Regulatory Council for Tequila, an organisation that brings together stakeholders of the Agave Tequila chain, including agave and tequila producers, bottlers, distributors, retailers and government agencies, presented its strategies and objectives to Sailburu Amaia Barredo Guadalajara in Guadalajara, These encompass inspection, analysis and certification of compliance with the Official Tequila Standard, the control of the Designation of Origin Tequila in Mexico and abroad, created in 1994, and the guarantee to consumers of the authenticity of Tequila.
As a member of the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin Council, Amaia Barredo was interested in the work carried out by her Mexican counterparts, offering the details her visit with 23 Rioja Alavesa and Txakoli wineries along with Euskal Sagardoa cider producers for promotion on the Mexican market.
