EDA Drinks & Wine Campus and the Spanish Brewers Association have designed a continuing education Master's degree in beer technology from a global and innovative perspective. The program will address the entire value chain of the sector and provide students with a holistic view of the world of beer.
The Master's degree provides a distinctive perspective on one of the most important “liquid food sectors.” international. This training program is supported by the entire beer industry, which will contribute all its knowledge and experience through the Association of Spanish Brewers and its companies to the design of the curriculum, making it a unique and internationally renowned master's degree.
The general director of the Basque Culinary Center, Mr Joxe Mari Aizega, stated that "one of the pillars of EDA Drinks & Wine Campus is excellent training based on collaboration with top-level entities. This agreement with Brewers reflects that philosophy and will allow us to develop an academic program of great value. It is an honor for us to work hand in hand with one of the leaders in the beverage industry to create a unique and internationally renowned master's degree."
Mrs Elisa Ucar, director of EDA Drinks & Wine Campus, stated that the educational institution is "truly happy with the signing of this agreement, as it represents collaboration and unity with the beer industry." This continuing education master's degree is designed from a current, rigorous, and innovative perspective, with an international perspective."
Mrs Amaia Barredo, Minister of Food, Rural Development, Agriculture, and Fisheries of the Basque Government, emphasized the importance of the aforementioned agreement, given that beer has a long history in the Basque Country, as we have seen for the past ten years with "Basque Beer"
"The natural, local raw materials are diversified into the nearly 300 varieties of beer, which maintain their personality and nuances. Today, we are working on combining the product—local hops and malting barley—26% of which is local, a figure that will grow with the collaboration of local farmers in the Basque Territory of Araba." To this end, we are promoting initiatives with 17 breweries that produce 1 million litres" stated Sailburu (Minister) Amaia Barredo.
Jacobo Olalla, CEO of Spain-Cerveceros, positively valued this collaboration agreement, highlighting that "the agreement with EDA Wine & Drinks will elevate our Master of Brewing to a new level, training the master brewers of today and tomorrow at an internationally renowned center."
Along the same lines, Eduardo Olmedo, deputy director of Cerveceros Association emphasizes that "this pairing between the current Escuela Superior de Cerveza y Malta and the Basque Culinary Center will revolutionize training and lay the foundations for what will become the best Spanish-speaking beer school in the world."
For her part, Felisa Bartolomé, president of ESCYM, adds that "it is time to share all the knowledge and training experience accumulated over the years." Building on that foundation, a unique and cutting-edge master's degree."
As for the next steps, the training program design will be developed through various working groups with the goal of launching enrollment next year. Training is scheduled to begin in 2027. The master's degree will be taught by the Basque Culinary Center, Faculty of Gastronomic Sciences at the EDA.
