2025 May 6
  • Euskadi steps up its international profile at a key event for the wine industry.
  • Support from the Basque Government, with Deputy Minister for Food and Rural Development, Raúl Pérez Iracheta, in attendance.

Ciudad Real 2025 05 06

This year, 28 Basque wineries are taking part in FENAVIN, the specialist wine fair running from 6 to 8 May in Ciudad Real. Out of these, 15 wineries are exhibiting together under the Euskadi Basque Country brand, at a stand promoted by the Basque Government. The other 13 wineries are showcasing individually across different areas of the fair.

The presence of these wineries is backed by the Department of Food, Rural Development, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Basque Government, with support from the HAZI Foundation and the Bilbao Chamber of Commerce. Their participation is part of a wider internationalisation and promotion strategy for the Basque wine sector.

The official stand is in Hall E “HAFIZ”, Street 24, Stand 8, and it features wineries from Rioja Alavesa as well as the three Txakoli Designations of Origin: Arabako Txakolina, Bizkaiko Txakolina and Getariako Txakolina.

FENAVIN has become an essential meeting point for the international wine industry, attracting thousands of buyers from around the world every two years. The fair includes a range of practical business tools like the “Contact with Buyers” programme, which helps schedule commercial meetings, and the Wine Gallery, a free tasting area where wineries can present their most notable wines.

At the Basque stand, visitors can also head to the Basque Wine Bar, a tasting space run by wine expert Mikel Garaizabal, offering personalised guidance and helping visitors connect directly with the wineries for business conversations.

Deputy Minister for Food and Rural Development, Raúl Pérez Iracheta, is attending on behalf of the Basque Government to show support for the sector and accompany the participating wineries.

“The current international climate, marked by uncertainty and ongoing changes in trading conditions, means we need to step up our international promotion efforts,” said Pérez Iracheta. “Events like FENAVIN are key to boosting our wineries’ visibility, opening new doors, and building strong commercial relationships.  The quality and authenticity of our wines are our strongest assets in an increasingly competitive global market.”
