Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu, the Basque Premier, accompanied by the Basque Government’s Minister for Economic Development and Competitiveness, Arantxa Tapia, and its Minister for Health, Jon Darpón, visited the FAES FARMA premises in Leioa (Bizkaia) this morning to meet with its management team and then to visit the facilities of the pharmaceutical company and learn about its research work and drug production. Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu thus wanted to show the Basque Government’s support for all Basque companies that continue to be committed to research and R&D&I and are capable of generating knowledge and sustainable employment over the years.

Iosu Madariaga: "the Social Forum is the most relevant milestone within the public participation process launched by the Basque Government for the development of Biodiversity planning in the Basque Country" Iosu Madariaga, Deputy Minister of the Environment of the Basque Government, today stated in Bilbao that the Basque Country is above the European average in terms of protected areas within the Natura 2000 network. "20.5 % of the territory is included in this protection figure while the EU average is 18.4%", according to Madariaga, at the opening of the Social Biodiversity Forum, held today in Bilbao, in which around one hundred public and private managers have been working on the objectives to be pursued by the " Basque Country Biodiversity Strategy 2030 ".
The Basque County in 5th place in Europe as regards the number of EMAS environmental certifications ahead of France, the United Kingdom and Portugal
The Basque Government has paid tribute this afternoon to 28 Basque organisations that have obtained EMAS environmental certification in the Basque Autonomous Community, along with those that have maintained their Eco-Management and Audit Scheme accreditation, where the European Union recognises those organisations that have implemented an environmental management system and have undertaken to be committed to continuous improvement, which is verified by independent audits. Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu, the Basque Premier, pointed out that ”these companies are a real ´environmental force´ as 2,887 organisations, with more than 10,000 plants, provide a great transformation capacity in the process to change the development model that we have embarked on”.
